Who are we?

Originally established by a group of women in 2006, SWIRE has now grown and evolved into its current form with a Committee and Constitution. Most importantly however it has still retained the original values and goals that were so important at the very start, which revolve around women helping and supporting other women in business.

Women are great at supporting each other emotionally, mentally and even physically and are great team players, and SWIRE utilises this by creating a culture where women can get the support or professional advice they need from their fellow members.

What about the name?

SWIRE now stands for Southwest Women in Regional Enterprise. We wanted to open the group up to all local women whether they worked in towns or the countryside. The goal was to be inclusive rather than exclusive!!

Where are we?

Our venue is at the fabulous Monks Yard near Ilminster. Whenever possible we include a minute to introduce ourselves at the beginning, followed by a business speaker and plenty of time to chat and network at the end.

When do we meet?

Meetings are held approximately every six weeks.

How we go about it

By utilising the members own individual networks of contacts and each others areas of expertise there is mutual help available for all, no matter at what stage of business formation.

We are also tuned into opportunities not just for women but for useful business support too. Come along to the meetings and find out – let us know if it is your first time and we will keep a look out for you.

"SWIRE is a chance to meet professional businesswomen in an informal networking group and to have an informative but enjoyable evening.

I have gained more from SWIRE than from any other networking group and always look forward to the meetings."
